| Abstract : | Of the 919 respondents, 88% recalled seeing the message and 54% were able to describe some graphic element of the message. The messages were well received with 75% of respondents commenting that they liked the look of the messages. 73% agreed that the comic style design was a good idea for the target audience. At the time of the evaluation 32% of respondents had stopped smoking, 31% had cut down, 20% reported no change, 7% had tried to quit but had failed and 3% had increased their smoking. 41% of respondents felt that the posters had some influence over their decision to reduce or stop smoking and/or felt encouraged by the messages to do so. Since the commencement of the programme 63% of those who smoked had reported reducing or stopping at the time of the evaluation. |
